will grapefruit oil interfere with prescription medications?

The components of grapefruit that interact with medications are not the same as the pure aromatic compounds of grapefruit essential oil, so we have not found any issues in this regard. The list of active furanocoumarins found in grapefruit that can interfere with drugs includes: bergamottin, bergapten, bergaptol and 6',7'-dihydroxybergamottin. None of these are found in doTERRA’s grapefruit essential oil. However, we always recommend that those with a known condition consult their doctor before beginning use of any of our products. The great thing about essential oils is that they share many of their therapeutic properties in common. Should you wish to avoid use of grapefruit essential oil, you could always try another essential oil with similar therapeutic properties.
